Music training that adapts to you,
not the other way around.
Some people don’t succeed in traditional music environments, not because they lack interest or ability, but because the system wasn’t built for how they learn, move, or process information.
This work is built around changing that.
What This Is
Adapted Music Training is designed for individuals with physical, cognitive, or developmental challenges who want to meaningfully engage with music, whether that means playing an instrument, writing songs, or simply participating in a way that feels real and rewarding.
How It Works
Every element of the process is adjusted to the individual.
That includes:
- How the instrument is approached
- How information is presented
- How skills are developed and reinforced
The goal is simple: remove unnecessary barriers and create a clear, workable path forward.
What That Looks Like in Practice
This is practical, hands-on adaptation based on the individual.
Physically:
- Reassigning parts of an instrument to match movement patterns (e.g., moving a drum function from foot to hand)
- Simplifying or restructuring tasks based on gross vs fine motor ability
- Using tools or technology to reduce physical barriers where needed
Cognitively:
- Removing unnecessary translation (e.g., direct visual cues instead of symbolic language)
- Identifying and working around communication bottlenecks
- Building systems that match how the individual naturally processes information
The approach is always the same:
Find the point of friction, remove it, build from there.
Outcome
Students leave with:
- A real ability to engage with music
- Increased confidence
- Skills that carry into other areas of life
The result is not just participation – it’s capability.
If traditional approaches haven’t worked, there may be a better fit.
